Support Sufyan

Please help support Sufyan and his family transition into a new life in the United States. Your kindness and generosity truly do make a big difference in the lives of these families, and we are immensely grateful for every single person who chooses to contribute to furthering and expanding FAJR's medical evacuation work.

This is a fund solely dedicated to meeting all of their needs while they are our honored guests. Unfortunately there is a lot of uncertainty about the future of Palestinians who evacuated from Gaza, and FAJR is dedicated to ensuring our patients and their families are taken care of and loved.

FAJR Scientific (“FAJR”) is a U.S.-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit medical organization dedicated to saving lives irrespective of ethnic or religious backgrounds, free from religious, denominational, or political affiliations. We envision a world where top-notch surgical expertise is a right, not a privilege, and aim to bridge the gap between medical advancements and those in need. Our mission is to provide unparalleled surgical care to vulnerable and underserved populations around the world.

At the end of August 2024, seven-year-old Sufyan Al-Haddad was playing outside his home with his cousins when he suddenly dropped to the ground, appearing lifeless. Unsure of what happened, his father rushed him to the hospital where the doctor thought he was already dead. They were able to revive him, but gave very little hope that Sufyan would recover. His eye was very swollen for no apparent reason and it was dismissed as shock. A week later, a CT scan revealed that Sufyan had been shot by a quadcopter, and he still had the full bullet embedded in his head. They also discovered separate shrapnel pieces behind his eye that explained the swelling. The bullet has affected the left side of Sufyan's body and he suffers from paralysis in the left arm and leg as well as seizures. He spent months in bed and isolated himself trying to hide the appearance of his eye, which has affected his mental health.

His mother made many desperate appeals for Sufyan to be treated, but it seemed there wasn't anyone willing or able to take his case. His parents didn't have much hope until the end of September, when an advocate for the family connected them with our medical evacuations manager, who worked to secure the highest quality treatment for Sufyan in the United States. Only five days after celebrating his 8th birthday in North Gaza, Sufyan was medically evacuated with his mother and younger brother Mahib, sadly having to leave his loving father behind.

FAJR coordinated his treatment with El Paso Children's hospital, and their renowned Medical Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Dr. Ziyad Makoshi. We are committed to supporting the Al-Haddad family every step of this journey, and we are very grateful to have them join our FAJR family.
