Volunteer With Us - Urgently Seeking Surgeons for Gaza Relief
Dear Colleagues,
I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits. I am reaching out to you today with an urgent and exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of Fajr’s next Surgical Departments.
As part of our efforts to rebuild the healthcare system in Gaza, Palestine we are seeking dedicated volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of those affected by the ongoing crisis. It is disheartening to note that over 60% of the injured in Gaza are children.
In light of this, we are urgently seeking surgeons with expertise in the following areas:
1. Adult and Pediatric Neurosurgery: We need someone with specialized knowledge in neurosurgery to oversee and guide the adult and pediatric neurosurgical services. This division plays a crucial role in providing essential care for patients with neurological conditions.
2. Adult and Pediatric Cardiovascular: We are in search of a skilled professional who can lead the adult and pediatric cardiovascular division. This division focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular diseases in both adults and children, ensuring that life-saving interventions are provided.
3. Adult and Pediatric Plastic Surgery: We are seeking a knowledgeable individual to head the adult and pediatric plastic surgery division. This division deals with reconstructive and cosmetic procedures, aiming to enhance the appearance and functionality of patients who have suffered injuries.
4. Pediatric Rheumatology: We are looking for an experienced specialist in pediatric rheumatology to lead this division. This division focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases in children, providing much-needed care and support to young patients.

FAJR Scientific will cover the expenses of every mission-critical team member as outlined in the MEDICAL PERSONNEL section and will strictly adhere to FAJR scientific travel Policy which is in line with other non-for-profit organizations. This includes an economy class ticket, transportation, hotels and food.
Please Note: We are a 100% volunteer-based organization with near ZERO overhead. As such, to continue to honor our commitment to our donors, we cannot cover the expenses of the NON-MEDICAL PERSONNEL volunteer roles, and will be expected to cover their own expenses if they wish to travel with the mission team. In order to ensure fairness for all applicants, including those who have dedicated months to volunteering with FAJR Scientific, certain acceptance criteria must be met to qualify for participation in the mission trip. This includes maintaining excellent academic standing (students), as well as a commitment to volunteering with FAJR Scientific for one year prior to and one year following the mission. There are various volunteering opportunities available for applicants to engage in.
For volunteers who are not deemed essential for the mission, they will need to self-fund their participation. For the 2024 mission, the initial estimated cost of the trip for volunteers, covering expenses such as airfare, accommodation, meals, transportation, and administrative fees, begins at $4500. Depending on the time of year, this cost may increase to a maximum of $6000.
FAJR Scientific is a globally recognized organization, and as such is committed to serving people in need of Orthopedic expertise but cannot access this expertise. Therefore, it is our philosophy that every dollar we spend, has to be dedicated to restoring function and independence to an individual who is suffering from Palestine to Pakistan or anywhere else around the world. Orthopedic surgery, unlike other medical specialties, is very much dependent on implants that restore joint function such Knee replacements, hip replacements, scoliosis, pediatric & sports medicine and their associated tool-sets, which can prove to be costly and logistically challenging.

In 2023, FAJR Scientific successfully conducted two orthopedic medical missions in both the West Bank and Gaza, during which a total of 201 intricate orthopedic surgeries were performed within a span of 10 days.
